John Morris Jones Way

The John Morris Jones Walkway was given the name in recognition of the work of John Morris Jones, a teacher who wrote extensively about the areas of Hall Green, Yardley and Sparkhill.  It is an attractive section of the Shire Country Park, where the path runs close to the river for a kilometre or so between Brook Lane and Cole Bank Rd, opposite Sarehole Mill.

Our aim for the next year or so is to create a number of places where people can easily see the river, with some log benches to sit on to rest and comtemplate the view. In  addition to controlling balsam and dogwood growth, we want to demonstrate and apply traditional country craft such as hedge-laying, pollarding willows and rustic woodcraft skills. We will also be planting trees and even building living willow structures using willow cut during the pollarding process.
